Motorama 2025

Motorama 2025

Camping in the middle of a busy Car show?

Sign us up!

Unlike Corey, who enlisted the help of a small army of farmers, tractors and snowblowers; I had to pull my trailer out of the back yard, and reef it out between my neighbour's house. The entire situation was ridiculous, and without my neighbour helping me I think I would still be there tugging on that Soviet pile of crap. Shoutout Jay, you're a great guy.

This was not fun

I hadn't actually driven the Skoda or turned it over since last November (roughly 4 months if I remember them all correctly) So the actual driving ~80km to Motorama while towing roughly a ton was still up in the air. The car ran flawlessly. Although bits of the journey were spent at 30 km/h uphill in second gear while a train of commuters collected behind us, I couldn't have asked for more.

The mighty Skoda, ready for the Journey

Once at the show, I can't believe how many people came out to say hi; the best part of events like this is certainly the people. We had our own home base to hang out in, which in a giant show like this, is a godsend. 330,000 square feet of automotive passion and mayhem.

Poor Jim. A lifetime of service to the automotive community and it has come to this.

One of the brilliant things about Motorama is it really brings out the passion people have for cars. In contrast to the AutoShow, there's so much buzz in the air, not to mention the smell of alcohol fuel and screaming open headers on setup/teardown days. It doesn't feel like a 'bring anything you want' show, the cars are still hand picked and each one brings something different.

I feel like what Motorama nails is that they don't celebrate an aspect of car culture at the expense of another. Do you like Muscle cars? Great. Imports? They're represented. Lifted trucks? Sure thing, and why not some slammed ones as well? There is really a great camaraderie among the exhibitors of the show and something I'm really drawn to.

There was certainly something for everyone

The Targa booth was back, and we had a blast sharing Targa stories with past competitors and new ones. Fancy running into Jim Kenzie and I finally got a copy of his book signed, so that's a bucket list item taken care of.

Interesting trivia tidbit, the soundboard used for the show stage is a vintage unit used at MuchMusic back in the day! Very cool piece of equipment. Operated by Terry McCarthy, who just happens to be an old neighbour of mine. Small world.

Veteran of MuchMusic Snowjob

One of the interesting observations at the CircleBack Social booth is that people who were enthralled by the Skoda didn't look twice at the Bug. The ones who loved the Beetle didn't really think much of the Skoda. So in some sense we got to entertain a more diverse crowd.

After an 8,000 decibel move out day, and towing the trailer back home, the Skoda actually started to misbehave the last 4 km to the house. This isn't the first time the car has let me know that sometimes enough is enough, and we essentially coasted the last bit home.

Big trailer, little trailer

What a time!

See you next year!
